About ASSET

Knowledge Assets to Support the Science Instruction of Elementary Teachers (ASSET) is exploring a method for generating collective pedagogical content knowledge (C-PCK).  This method will be tested in two content areas:  (1) the small particle model for matter and (2) interdependent relationships in ecosystems.  The two content areas were first unpacked into key ideas.  Literature reviews, surveys, and interviews with practicing elementary teachers and curriculum developers helped determine what is known in the field about teaching and learning of each of the key ideas, including common patterns of student thinking and successful instructional strategies.  We have arranged the C-PCK for these two topics in a series of driving question pathways, accessible through this website.
