Have students again imagine that they are wearing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horizon-research.com\/ASSET\/super-strong-glasses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">super strong glasses<\/a> and draw a picture that illustrates what they saw happening to the water in the dog&#8217;s water bowl\u00a0using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horizon-research.com\/ASSET\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/dogbowlv2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this task sheet<\/a>. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.horizon-research.com\/ASSET\/administration-instructions-for-student-task-time-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Task instructions for pilot teachers.<\/a>]\n<h3>Questions to Ask Students<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Describe what\u2019s in your drawing. What does each part represent?<\/li>\n<li>How is this drawing different from your first one?<\/li>\n<li>How could you use what you just drew to explain how the puddle on the pan (from Student Experience 4) disappeared?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Student Thinking<\/h3>\n<p>Some students may still believe that matter (in this case water) is continuous rather than made up of particles (in this case water molecules) <a href=\"\/ASSET\/References\/#Evaporation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(Benson et al., 1993; Nakhleh &amp; Samarapungavan, 1999; Renstr\u00f6m et al., 1990; S\u00e9r\u00e9, 1986)<\/a>. These students are likely not to include water particles, or any other kind of particles, in their drawings.<\/p>\n<h3>Implementation Tips<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Challenge students to add more detail than they included in their first drawing, even those students who included particles the first time.<\/li>\n<li>The simulation will not convince all students that matter is made of particles and that those particles leave the liquid and enter the vapor phase.
