Multiple choice questions have the advantage of requiring relatively little student time and being generally straightforward to evaluate. Developing well-constructed multiple choice questions can, however, require considerable time. Misconception-based distractors may readily identify naïve student ideas that otherwise may be difficult for students to express. A sample item is shown below.
