Elicitation Strategy: Prediction

With this strategy, students  are presented with specific scenarios and asked to predict outcomes.  The scenario invites students to envision an interaction or event.  This process may help prepare students to express their ideas by activating existing cognitive structures that seem relevant.  This strategy can direct attention to very particular content, but can also allow expression of perhaps unanticipated ideas.  Exploring and comparing predictions is also an effective method for revealing underlying reasoning.  A sample prediction question is shown below.
