Murray E. Wickwire

Murray E. Wickwire, Research Associate, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dalhousie University, a Bachelor's degree in Education from St. Mary's University and a Masters degree in Education from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Prior to coming to HRI in 2003, Mr. Wickwire had 20 years of elementary teaching experience including 10 years in the public elementary education system in the United States and 10 years internationally in private schools located in the Middle East and Asia. Working as a classroom teacher, Mr. Wickwire also performed various administrative roles and was a curriculum coordinator for elementary mathematics.

Mr. Wickwire works primarily on the evaluation of mathematics education initiatives. He is currently responsible for the evaluation of an NSF MSP Institute project involving Virginia Commonwealth University, Norfolk State University, and the University of Virginia as they prepare cohorts of teachers to become K-5 elementary mathematics specialists. He also conducts the evaluation of the Mathematics Specialist in K-5 Schools: Research and Policy Pilot Study, an NSF-funded teacher enhancement project providing leadership training to elementary teachers in Virginia. Mr. Wickwire is a member of the evaluation teams for the Consortium for Advancement in Mathematics and Science, and the Developing Facilitators of Practice-based Materials for Mathematics Professional Development.
